Publish to Sundance

Publish to Sundance

Publish to Sundance (P2S) is a new feature available within Avid editing systems.  It enables the seamless migration of finished content directly to the broadcast facility's play-to-air server, complete with its metadata.

In addition to a Sundance Digital Titan™ or FastBreak® NXT automation™ system, Publish to Sundance incorporates functions of Avid Interplay™ and its Media Services Engine, as well as Avid ProEncode™ using the Telestream or Agility Anystream transcode engines.

The P2S application consists of two components:

A plug-in to Avid Interplay allows the editor to assign the piece for transfer.
A Sundance application to manage the metadata attachment and execute the transfers.

Workflow

Publish to Sundance efficiently replaces the tedious and time-consuming process of rendering finished edits out to videotape, then manually dubbing those tapes to the transmission server:

The editor completes work on a piece of content.
The editor assigns a broadcast house ID and/or provides a brief description of the piece in the edit data fields.
The editor selects Publish to Sundance (P2S) from the Interplay Media Services menu, then selects the Default profile.
P2S creates an intermediate rendering of the piece and places the metadata into the Interplay Media Services Engine.
The Sundance application detects the presence of new content and tries to match the house number to a placeholder in the play-to-air database.
If Sundance finds a match, it executes the transcode via the ProEncode service to the transmission server.
If Sundance does not find a match, it lists the piece and description for a Master Control Operator to manually match the piece and begin the transcode.

The benefit of this workflow is the elimination of manual processes, increased video quality, and a significant reduction in the time required to go from idea to air.
